In his two decades as a transformational teacher, coach and mentor, Dr. Shyam has shared the life-changing and time-tested practical tools from Western and Eastern philosophical wisdom. Distilling years of study, research and one-on-one work with clients and students, he is gifted in helping people create the space for themselves and transformation, work through transitions and challenges, discover their own autonomy and create thriving, empowered lives.
As a lifelong student and practitioner of integrative life wisdom, Dr. Shyam has dedicated his career to uncovering the moral philosophies of classical traditions, especially those that have been neglected and poorly studied. His groundbreaking doctoral research on understanding practical, ethical, wisdom from all possible traditions, across cultures, languages and times, uniquely places Dr. Shyam to distill humanity’s greatest practical lessons for his clients.
In his noted down-to-earth and friendly way, he shows us how to cut through the pressures and challenges we are dealing with, make space for ourselves to transform and live successful lives. He lives by the principles he teaches, applying them to his own life before sharing them with others.
Dr. Shyam is the creator of Philosophit, an online transformational coaching and personal development platform dedicated to supporting you through significant life transitions. He also founded the Yoga Philosophy Institute to share the core Yoga teachings and traditions to yoga teachers, therapists and dedicated practitioners.
An author of over 60 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Shyam’s books include Life After Death (Bloomsbury 2026), Moral Philosophy and De-Colonialism: The Irrationality of Oppression (Bloomsbury, 2026), and Yoga: Anticolonial Philosophy (Singing Dragon 2024). He is also an expert on the moral and intellectual challenges of AI and the future of work in a world of disinformation. He holds an MA in South Asian Studies, and an MA and PhD in philosophy. He has held teaching and research positions at the University of Toronto and York University.
